Tony G Challenges Phil Hellmuth as Pros Line Up to Take Down the Poker Brat
By admin | | 0 Comments |

February 15, 2021 Gossip, Rumors & Buzz Tony G wants a piece of Phil Hellmuth. Just four weeks after ending his political career, G is back in the game and taking aim at one of his old sparring partners. Tony G is the latest player to call out Phil Hellmuth as heads-up fever takes hold. (Image: YouTube/WPT) With everyone taking potshots at Hellmuth right now, including Daniel Negreanu, the loudmouth Lithuanian wants to dance. Tony’s tweet comes at a time when high-profile heads-up battles are becoming the norm. However, for a match between two of the game’s best talkers to happen, it has to take place on TV. Tony G Wants to Resume Rivalry with Old Sparring Partner A potential match between Tony G and Phil Hellmuth would be epic. The two have butted heads on more than one occasion and, in turn, made poker on TV a mainstream spectacle. When it's safer to travel, I'm taking @phil_hellmuth for a dance on the felt. High stakes Hold'em for charity. Who can set this up? International TV is a must! — Tony G (@TonyGuoga) February 12, 2021 Unsurprisingly, G’s tweet brought back memories of old and generated a wave of interest. Alongside fans saying they’d “watch anything” the two were involved in, other names were thrown into the mix. The outspoken Luke Schwartz and Will Kassouf have been touted as players who could raise the stakes when it comes to table talk. Doug Polk and Mike Matusow also have a lot to say. We could even kill two birds with one stone and add Negreanu to the game. He’s currently trying to get a one-on-one with Hellmuth but a ring game for bragging rights could also pique his interest. In reality, if we’re laying odds, we’d say there’s a better chance of Hellmuth playing G than Negreanu. The Poker Brat is a demonstrably strong player and his WSOP record speaks for itself. But when it comes to playing heads-up against the game’s elite, he’s often more talk than action. Indeed, we can’t forget the famous incident with Tom Dwan in 2008 (see video above). Pros Lining Up to Take Down Phil Hellmuth Hellmuth never accepted Durrrr’s challenge and, so far, he’s not accepted Negreanu’s. Neither has he responded to G. He has, however, thrown out a few facts on Twitter which suggest he may be willing to play someone. We know G has spent less time playing poker and more time fighting political battles over the last five years. That could be reason enough for Hellmuth to accept his challenge over Negreanu’s. There’s also the small matter of the match taking place on TV. If there’s one thing Hellmuth likes more than winning and the sound of his own voice, it’s winning and hearing the sound of his own voice on TV. Would anyone be interested in a televised match between the two? Well, fans certainly want it and, so it seems does PokerStars. 🙋 — PokerStars (@PokerStars) February 12, 2021 The online poker operator was the first to respond. Donnie Peters also called on PokerGo to throw its hat into the ring. The initial interest suggests a match may be brewing. However, G might have to fight Negreanu if he wants the first shot at Hellmuth. Poker Players Discuss Bitcoin’s Rise, Potential for Sustained Growth
By admin | | 0 Comments |

February 14, 2021 Gossip, Rumors & Buzz Many poker players are heavily invested in more than just their poker games. Take Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies, for example. Doug Polk, among others, made some bold takes recently on Twitter in regards to Bitcoin, which is now hovering around $50,000. What does the future hold for Bitcoin? (Image: Forbes) Polk, who previously ran a crypto YouTube channel, is in it for the long-haul. He believes Bitcoin is the way of the future and considers the investment profitable long-term. He certainly isn’t the only one in the poker community. Mike McDonald, Haralabos Voulgaris, and Chris Moneymaker are among those who are all-in on the cryptocurrency. Thats also not to say I think you should sell now… I think you shouldnt. This ride could get way crazier. But what is important to take away is that when the upswing ends there could be a sharp drop, dont let that trick you into thinking its the same as the last crash. — Doug Polk (@DougPolkVids) February 14, 2021 “I wouldnt be surprised to see a sharp decrease in $BTC price in the near future, but imo we have hit a new floor (15k+). Companies like Tesla have invested substantial money in BTC. They’ll have to defend that decision, which will be difficult if they panic sell the first dip,” Polk wrote on Twitter. Long-Term Future of Bitcoin Polk, who invested heavily in his heads-up poker game against Daniel Negreanu to the tune of a $1.2 million profit, is one of many poker players who has been in the crypto game for years. He first invested in Bitcoin long before it approached $5,000, let alone its current value of $50,000 for just one bitcoin. Not everyone, however, thinks the long-term investment is worth the risk. Tony Nagatani (@AnthonyNagatani), who commented on Polk’s tweet, says, “$50K is a nice big round number and every institutional investor who bought $BTC at $10K would be hard pressed to not take 5x profit….” Cashing in on a 500% profit sounds nice on any investment, especially one that has been relatively short-term. But some experts anticipate its value hitting $100,000 before too long, and potentially even further. Still, like any investment, there is risk and there’s no such thing as a guarantee. Bitcoin’s rise over the past few years has been met with the occasional dip, as Polk warned could occur in the near future again. On this date (Feb. 14) just four years ago, it was valued at just a shade over $1,000, nearly triple its value one year earlier. Four years later (today), one bitcoin equals more than $48,000, an increase of more than 4,500%. But along the way to its current price, Bitcoin has been up and down numerous times. The coin hit $20,000 for the first time in December of 2017 before plummeting to under $9,000 two months later. From February 2018 through June 19, 2019, it didn’t surpass $10,000 at any point. As of July 26, 2020, it was still hovering under $10,000. Then it came roaring back in late October, first hitting $13,000, then back over $20,000 in December, then $30,000 just after the New Year, all the way up to its current mark a tad below $50,000. What does the future hold for Bitcoin? Everyone seems to have a different prediction. Polk believes it’s a strong long-term investment and claims the new bottom is $15,000. McDonald shares those sentiments. With Elon Musk recently announcing Tesla is investing over $1 billion into Bitcoin, the Bitcoin price saw a massive spike. And now we’ll see if it’s sustained long-term. Written by Jon Sofen Semi-pro poker player with 17 years experience on the felt and more than five years working as professional poker media. Hellmuth Early Favorite Against Negreanu, If Match Takes Place
By admin | | 0 Comments |

February 13, 2021 Gossip, Rumors & Buzz Phil Hellmuth is the early favorite in what could be an epic heads-up poker match against Daniel Negreanu, assuming they actually play. But neither player has yet to agree to the match. Will Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu actually play heads-up? (Image: assopoker.com) Negreanu recently finished off a losing heads-up battle against Doug Polk in which he dumped $1.2 million to his long-time rival. But he showed off some surprising heads-up skills against arguably the best heads-up player ever. He was more competitive than many expected. Hellmuth, however, wasn’t so impressed with the GGPoker ambassador’s game. He criticized the strategy implemented by Negreanu’s coaches. After hearing the critical comments, Negreanu offered up a challenge to the 15-time WSOP bracelet winner. “Yo @phil_hellmuth you said you watched “zero” of the match but seem to have strong opinions on the play. I’ll play you a heads up match live, online, at any stakes you feel comfortable with for as many hands as you would like. Wanna play big guy?” Negreanu wrote in response on Twitter. Doug Polk isn’t Buying Phil Hellmuth as the Favorite Hellmuth never publicly responded to Negreanu’s tweet. But many poker fans began anticipating what could become the biggest heads-up match in poker history, even surpassing any “Durrrr Challenge” or Polk vs. Negreanu. If the match does take place, one bookmaker has it handicapped differently than many on poker Twitter. Phil Hellmuth vs Daniel Negreanu Heads-Up Match Odds@phil_hellmuth -150@RealKidPoker +110 pic.twitter.com/VSNsoEwS2X — BetOnline.ag (@betonline_ag) February 13, 2021 According to BetOnline.ag, Phil Hellmuth opens as the -150 favorite and “DNegs” the +150 underdog. Polk, who complimented Negreanu’s play considering he doesn’t have extensive heads-up experience, might be ready to put down some of that $1.2 million he recently won on his former heads-up opponent. “Is there a place I can bet all the money?” Polk asked in response to the BetOnline tweet. Well, he could always bet online, at BetOnline. “Isn’t dnegs going to totally destroy Phil having had the sessions with you and dnegs good at exploitative adjusts and evolves reasonably quickly in general?” Twitter user @plevchen asked the Upswing Poker founder. Polk gave a simple response: “Yes.” Most who commented on the tweet argued that Negreanu is the far superior player and would mop the floor with Phil Hellmuth. But there were a few on the “Poker Brat’s” side. “Phil is the far superior holdem player. Even with the recent challenge, Daniel wouldn’t be able to win a 10k plus hand hu match even once out of a hundred,” @Matthew68599086 claims. There’s only way way to settle all of this and find out who really is the superior heads-up no-limit hold’em player, and that is for them to agree to the terms and battle it out on the felt. Landon Tice Putting ‘Very Large Amount’ of Net Worth On the Line vs. Bill Perkins
By admin | | 0 Comments |

February 12, 2021 Gossip, Rumors & Buzz Landon Tice admitted he’ll be selling action for his upcoming heads-up no-limit hold’em match against hedge fund manager Bill Perkins. But he also told his Twitter followers that he’ll still have plenty of skin in the game. Landon Tice is taking a big risk against Bill Perkins. But he certainly doesn’t lack the confidence to win. (Image: seminolehardrockpokeropen.com) The proposed match, which both parties have tentatively agreed to, calls for 20,000 hands at $200/$400 stakes. Those are the same stakes played in the recently completed Daniel Negreanu vs. Doug Polk match. In that competition, which spanned 25,000 hands, Polk won $1.2 million. During that challenge, Negreanu lost an average of $48 per hand dealt. In the proposed Perkins vs. Tice match, if the losing player loses at the same rate, that individual would end up down $960,000. With that said, these are two different players and we won’t know the win/loss rates in the match until they actually play. But Tice, who is just 21 years old, doesn’t have the bankroll to risk losing that much of his money. Granted, he expects to win and is confident in his game, but a horrible run of luck would be a killer to a young poker player who is concerned with his bankroll. On top of that, he agreed to pay Perkins back nine big blinds per 100 hands dealt. So, if the match goes the full 20,000 hands, he’d owe his opponent a $720,000 rebate even if he loses the challenge. Why Landon Tice is Taking Such a Risk Tice agreed to the deal simply because he’s confident he’ll crush the amateur poker player. But there’s still some risk involved and he may either be overrating his own skills or underrating the poker abilities of Perkins. Either way, he can’t afford to play at such high stakes on his own dime. Let me make something clear that I'm sure everyone cares about regarding my challenge with @bp22 I'm selling a lot of action for it. A lot. I'm not rolled to battle at nosebleeds. However, I am putting a very large amount of my relative net worth on myself winning it. — Landon (@LandonTice) February 11, 2021 “Let me make something clear that I’m sure everyone cares about regarding my challenge with @bp22. I’m selling a lot of action for it. A lot. I’m not rolled to battle at nosebleeds. However, I am putting a very large amount of my relative net worth on myself winning it,” Landon Tice wrote on Twitter. The young poker prodigy who began playing professionally two years ago, won the $1,100 MSPT Main Event at Venetian in Las Vegas back in November for $201,529. He beat out 1,123 players in the biggest live poker event in Las Vegas at the time since March. Overall, he has over $227,000 in live tournament cashes to go along with some online success. So, he’s certainly accomplished a great amount for someone his age. But he’s about to take on the biggest risk of his young poker career. Giving up nine big blinds per 100 hands is sort of like spotting an opponent on the basketball court 10 points in a game played to 12. In comparison, Polk won about 12 big blinds per 100 hands against Negreanu. If Tice wins at that rate, minus the $720,000 rebate he’ll owe, he’ll only turn a $240,000 profit, which won’t be much in his pocket after paying backers. Granted, Bill Perkins is a supposed weaker opponent than Daniel Negreanu. But Landon Tice shouldn’t be expected to play at as high of a level as Doug Polk, one of the best heads-up no-limit hold’em players ever. Iconic Strip Club Owner, Poker Room Operator, Larry Flynt Dead at 78
By admin | | 0 Comments |

February 10, 2021 Casino Gaming Larry Flynt, the owner of two Los Angeles poker rooms, a nudie mag, and Las Vegas strip clubs, passed away on Wednesday at age 78. The founder of “Hustler” magazine’s exact cause of death was not disclosed publicly. He passed away at his Hollywood Hills home in Southern California. Larry Flynt led quite a controversial life, but always stood behind his beliefs. (Image: New York Post) Flynt is most known around the world as a free speech loving porn peddler who survived a murder attempt in 1978, but was paralyzed from the neck down for life. He was shot in Lawrenceville, Georgia as he walked down the street with his lawyer following a court case. The incident not only left him partially paralyzed, he suffered excruciating pain for the rest of his life. That caused to become addicted to painkillers. Joseph Paul Franklin, a white supremacist, admitted to the shooting years later. His issue, he claims, was Flynt displaying an interracial couple in “Hustler,” an adult magazine. Despite his disability caused by the shooting, Larry Flynt went on to have big-time success in the adult entertainment industry. He began opening strip clubs, along with his magazine, in the 1970s throughout Ohio. He also slapped his name on the Larry Flynt Hustler Club in Las Vegas, perhaps his most famous strip club. Larry Flynt Had a Place in Poker But in the poker world, he’s just as well known for operating two Los Angeles card rooms — Hustler Casino and Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino. The poker rooms have more than 70 card tables combined and have become staples in Southern California since 2000. A woman whose mother is a former poker dealer for the entrepreneur tweeted about his death. Larry Flint died. That might mean nothing to any of you, but my mom works as a Poker Dealer at the Hustler Casino (owned by Larry Flint). One time he flew her out to Vegas and when she landed- strippers welcomed her off the private plane. soooo RIP Larry Flint? lol pic.twitter.com/aDuLovMyvc — Michelle Munchlax (@chellietbby) February 10, 2021 “Larry Flint died. Hustler Casino reopened earlier this month after being forced to close two months earlier due to COVID-19. The poker room is among one of the top places to play west of Las Vegas. Flynt was the Norman Chad of the adult industry. He was married five times, his first to Mary Flynt in 1965. The card room operator was born in Kentucky in 1942, and passed away Wednesday in California. He is survived by four living children. A Match for the Ages: Negreanu Challenges Hellmuth to Heads-Up Duel
By admin | | 0 Comments |

February 10, 2021 Gossip, Rumors & Buzz Daniel Negreanu already appears to have his next heads-up poker opponent in mind, and it’s none other than Phil Hellmuth, who was critical of “DNegs'” play against Doug Polk. Will Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth face off on the felt in a winner-take-all heads-up match? Don’t bet on it. (Image: pokerscout.com) Negreanu lost $1.2 million to Polk over 25,000 hands of $200/$400 No-Limit Hold’em on WSOP.com. He wasn’t expected to win, so it didn’t come as a surprise to many. The GGPoker ambassador entered the match as more than a 4-1 underdog. Despite virtually every poker expert expecting a Polk victory, Hellmuth ripped into his fellow Poker Hall of Famer’s play on the new PokerGo show, No Gamble No Future. Wow! @phil_hellmuth doesn't mince words breaking down @RealKidPoker's game versus Doug Polk https://t.co/xaBuzkJh8a — Poker Central (@PokerCentral) February 10, 2021 Co-host Brent Hanks asked the “Poker Brat” for his thoughts on the recently completed heads-up poker match. The WSOP bracelet record holder didn’t mince words. “Yeah, I was disappointed in the way that Daniel played,” Hellmuth said. “But I know his coaches, his coaches are brilliant.” Hellmuth then went on to criticize Negreanu for trying to play a GTO-like strategy against Polk, who specializes in game theory optimal play. Hellmuth then said he told Polk that he would love to face him next, although Polk said recently that he isn’t interested in playing additional matches. Negreanu, however, would gladly face the Hellmuth, if he’d accept. He called out Hellmuth on Twitter for the critical comments about his play against Polk. Yo @phil_hellmuth you said you watched “zero” of the match but seem to have strong opinions on the play. I’ll play you a heads up match live, online, at any stakes you feel comfortable with for as many hands as you would like. Wanna play big guy? https://t.co/ac9KVpwuaO — Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) February 10, 2021 “Yo @phil_hellmuth you said you watched ‘zero’ of the match but seem to have strong opinions on the play. I’ll play you a heads up match live, online, at any stakes you feel comfortable with for as many hands as you would like. Wanna play big guy?” Negreanu wrote on Twitter. Don’t Bet on It Polk vs. Negreanu was highly popular among the poker community. On most days during the 36-session challenge, the live-streams on YouTube combined to reach more than 10,000 viewers. But, that heads-up match would likely pale in comparison to Hellmuth vs. Negreanu. Hellmuth and Negreanu are, arguably, the two most popular and polarizing figures in poker history. So, you know this match will generate massive interest, especially from the poker-boom era crowd and the casual poker audience. But there’s one issue we haven’t yet addressed, and that is, will it ever take place? It’s clear that Negreanu is down for the challenge. Hellmuth, however? We don’t yet know and, even if he accepts, don’t bet on it being a 25,000-hand challenge or even close to that lengthy. The 15-time WSOP bracelet winner, in the above video, touted his supposed impeccable record in heads-up poker. “I’ve won 29 of my last 30 heads-up matches,” Hellmuth claims. “I won the last heads-up tournament I played in, and so, I think I’ve only lost once to Cary Katz.” On the surface, Hellmuth’s heads-up resume is quite strong. In 2005, he won the NBC National Heads-Up Championship and finished runner-up in 2013. He recently defeated Antonio Esfandiari on PokerGo in three straight matches. He even beat Polk and Dan “Jungleman” Cates in a four-player, “King of the Hill” competition on Poker Night in America. But, what he isn’t mentioning in the video is that those wins, albeit impressive, were small sample sizes. The matches only lasted a couple of hundred hands, or less. Negreanu, on the other hand, faced Polk three times a week, two tables at a time online, over three months. So, until we see Hellmuth win at heads-up over a reasonably large sample size, it’s difficult to assess his true abilities in that poker variant. Would he be willing to compete against Negreanu in a lengthy match of 20,000 or more hands to prove his skills? Don’t bet on it. And, don’t bet on Negreanu accepting a small sample-size challenge. With that said, if somehow they both come to terms and play, it would liklely become the biggest match in poker history. British Pros Cry Foul amid GGPoker Account Closure Dispute
By admin | | 0 Comments |

February 9, 2021 Gossip, Rumors & Buzz A social media storm has been raging recently between GGPoker and several UK-based poker pros who believe their accounts have been closed unfairly. A small number of British players, including Andy Wool (left), are concerned that GGPoker is using UKGC regulations to shut down pros. (Image: Twitter/dawhiteninja) The dark clouds began gathering last at the end of February when British pro Andy Wool, aka dawhiteninja, posted what he described as a “warning” on Twitter. In his words, a request to increase his deposit limit resulted in GGPoker permanently closing his account. Other pros, including Phil Galfond, were quick to rally around Wool, but that wasn’t the end of the story. Twitter Reacts to GGPoker Warning With speculation mounting that GGPoker was taking aim at winning players, other regs began sharing their experiences on Twitter. CardsChat News spoke to Wool. He told us that a well-known pro had reviewed his correspondence with GGPoker and agreed that it looks like a move against regs. ⚠️Warning UK players!⚠️ I contacted @GGPoker to increase my deposit limits since new UKGC regulations and they've permanently shut my account down. See image. Ignored my appeal request too. Top work. 🤡⚰️RIP ruffler ⚰️ pic.twitter.com/BM9y1uByCD — dawhiteninja (@whiteninjapoker) January 30, 2021 Wool is well aware of GGPoker’s desire to make novices feel welcome. In fact, it’s one of the things that attracted him to the site in the first place. “I was very supportive of the CEO’s comments regarding not catering for pros,” Wool said. “I thought GGPoker was heading in a great direction for poker.” In the past, he’s even defended GGPoker against people saying it didn’t want pros to play on the site at all. “I didn’t see it that way. I saw it as they wanted to cater for recreational players and that, in turn, would be great for pros,” Wool continued. However, with his account now closed, the Brit feels he may have been wrong about the company’s intentions. Hope Fades Following Account Closure For context, Wool left his job after building up a solid bankroll online. Coaching and backing from one of the UK’s best pros, Patrick Leonard, followed, and Wool has been playing full-time ever since. His most recent score, a $150,000 win in PokerStars’ Big Blowout, took his overall earnings above the $1 million mark. But, despite his tournament record, Wool was unable to convince GGPoker to up his deposit limit. “If the proof of monthly income and cash I gave to GGPoker isn’t enough, I really wonder how anyone can play there. That’s why I put out the warning out to UK players,” said the disgruntled pro. Other regs shared similar experiences on social media. Scrolling through the comments, it’s clear that changes to deposit limits and an inability to provide proof of earnings is the recurring theme. More Pros Speak Out We spoke to Ryan Hutchinson, who tweeted that he too was limited to deposits of $200, despite showing GGPoker account balances of $100,000+. He said he was given the option to make a large one-time deposit, but declined. Hutchinson’s account remains open, but he believes GGPoker is interpreting UKGC regulations to suit its own agenda. its $200/day capped at $1.3k/month. So someone earning minimum wage w/ 30k cc debt is allowed to deposit their entire monthly salary. I however, with no debt and evidence of 6 figs net worth am deemed unable to afford an increase. The regulation is to "protect people"… lol — Ryan Hutchinson (@razh54) January 30, 2021 It’s regulations that are at the heart of the matter, as the UKGC recently announced another set of amendments to British gambling laws. Although it’s always had strict regulations, things just got tougher for British pros. The reaction from GGPoker is in line with the latest UKGC rules. Same issues here. Iv gone from a 8k a day 20k a week 50k month deposit limit to a $200 a day limit.Iv sent all relivant docs to prove my sources of income and proof of funds to play within these limits yet they still decide to cap me at 200 a day ridiculous. — wiisssppppaa (@lllmurphlll) January 30, 2021 Proof of earnings is a metric used to determine whether a player can afford an increase. As such, all British players are subject to affordability checks when they request deposit limit increases. Additionally, a player’s betting activity will be reviewed to assess whether or not they have a gambling problem. A problem occurs when full-time poker players can’t provide wage slips or proof of a stable income. GGPoker Clarifies Its Position CardsChat spoke to a GGPoker’s Paul Burke about the recent allegations. He couldn’t comment on individual cases, but confirmed that a player’s record doesn’t determine their status on the site. “The fact that any given player is a winner or loser does not factor into our safer gambling or security team’s decision making at all,” Burke explained. He also told us that responsible gambling is a hot topic within the industry at large right now, and that all operators are taking it extremely seriously. “We are required by the UKGC and other gambling regulators to follow strict safer gambling measures and have been asked to be hyper-vigilant in the current uncertain times. We are following all such guidelines at present, which might be a cause of frustration in the eyes of some players,” Burke continued. It may be a storm in a teacup, or it may be crossed wires due to strict gambling regulations made tougher by COVID-19 concerns. Still, GGPoker maintains its position is clear and that it doesn’t close accounts simply because someone is a pro or a winning player. It’s a Regulatory Thing The one safer gambling measure that Burke is referring to above all else is affordability checks. All UK licensees are required to check that customers can afford to play if they notice unusual spending patterns. However, over the last five years, a number of operators have been fined for failing to carry out adequate Know Your Customer (KYC) checks. Betway, for example, was fined £11.6 million/$14.3 million when a customer used illicit funds to deposit $9.8 million over a four-year period. These failures, plus a recent push to tighten standards in the online gambling sector, have prompted the UKGC to adjust its rules. A call for evidence was launched in November 2020 and was due to end in January. The deadline was extended to Feb. 9 due to a significant amount of feedback. Once the submission period ends, the UKGC will review the evidence and issue a new set of rules governing KYC and affordability checks. Labour MP Carolyn Harris has already called for tougher rules. She recently appeared on Sky Sports Racing and said that anyone regularly betting £100 on horse racing must show they can afford it. Affordability checks for punters are a violation of privacy and basic rights, but a close reading of the Gambling Commission's proposal reveals the reality is even worse than you might imagine Here's why: https://t.co/1EWHG76yJC — Tom Kerr (@ThomasKerrRP) February 2, 2021 Members of the industry, including media outlet the Racing Post, have been critical of what they see as an attack on the industry. Tom Kerr believes that overly strict rules could negatively impact horse racing and sport in general. From the investigation carried out by CardsChat, it seems the push for more affordability checks is already having an impact on poker. Although the UKGC is yet to update its guidelines, the tide is turning. GGPoker has stated it’s being “hyper-vigilant” with regards to affordability, as are other operators across the industry. This same thing happened to me when I relocated to London thinking it was safe. Sending GG documents now. However @PokerStarsUK put a ban on my account 5 months ago. Their support team has been worse by far. Running out of options. — Brian Tougias (@Brogias) January 30, 2021 Supporting the idea that it’s not just GGPoker getting tough on players is a tweet from Brian Tougias. He recently relocated to London (he previously lived in Boston and Thailand), and had his PokerStars account closed because of a similar issue to Wool. His new GGPoker account is pending approval, however, his issue with PokerStars over deposit limits and identity suggest that its UK regulations, not specific poker sites, that are the problem. While poker players may be unhappy with the current system and rules being imposed by online sites, they are a symptom of the UK’s efforts to stamp out problem gambling. With affordability checks set to get tougher, operators like GGPoker are acting sooner rather than later in a bid to avoid the wrath of the UKGC. Landon Tice vs. Bill Perkins the Next Big Heads-Up Match in Poker?
By admin | | 0 Comments |

February 7, 2021 Gossip, Rumors & Buzz Landon Tice and Bill Perkins agreed to a high-stakes heads-up poker match on Twitter, and it appears they aren’t just messing around. Whether or not they’ll actually go through with it, however, is another issue. Will Landon Tice actually face Bill Perkins? (Image: Reddit) With the Doug Polk vs. Daniel Negreanu and Galfond Challenge matches out of the way after three months of exciting action, poker is in search of its next heads-up battle. Polk and Negreanu drew 10,000 or more viewers for nearly all of the 36 sessions they played. The match lasted nearly three months, and Polk won it by $1.2 million. It quickly became the talk of the poker community, and poker fans remained interested throughout. Tice vs. Perkins certainly won’t draw similar interest as neither player is as big of a name in the poker world as Negreanu or Polk. But it could potentially be an intriguing match, so long as poker fans actually watch it. They have tentatively agreed to play $200/$400 stakes, the same stakes at Negreanu and Polk, over 20,000 hands. All action will take place online, although the poker site hasn’t yet been determined. There is one caveat to this challenge. Tice must pay Perkins nine big blinds per 100 hands as part of the deal, or $720,000, assuming the match goes the full 20,000 hands. So, if he wins $800,000 during the heads-up play, he’ll really only profit $80,000 as he’ll then owe his opponent $720,000. Giving him a Chance Have you ever faced an inferior player on the basketball court? Chances are if you have, you’ve given that opponent a few points to start the game just to make it fair. That’s essentially what’s happening in this match. Perkins, a hedge fund manager who plays poker recreationally, understands the obstacle he’s facing. Tice, a 21-year-old poker pro from Florida, is considered one of the top young up-and-coming players in the game. He studies the game relentlessly, and is presumed to have an edge over a casual poker player. Thus, the reason he’s freerolling Perkins nine big blinds per 100 hands. Doing so should make the match a bit more fair for a casual poker player. With that said, Bill Perkins is a bit more skilled than the average recreational player. And because he’s so wealthy, he won’t be playing with scared money, which could give him an advantage over Tice, who is backed and doesn’t have as hefty of a bankroll. No date has been set yet on when the match will begin. But both players have agreed to play, at least on social media. The only question now is will Perkins actually see this thing through until the end or will he get bored or have more pressing issues to tend to instead of poker? Last summer, he briefly began a Galfond Challenge against Phil Galfond, but that match only lasted a couple of sessions. Haralabos Voulgaris isn’t very confident in Perkins playing all 20,000 hands. I'd lay 9-1 that Bill gets bored / distracted at some point and forgets he's supposed to play 20k hands of poker and this isn't completed. https://t.co/DeWBXWg3kg — Haralabos Voulgaris (@haralabob) February 7, 2021   Written by Jon Sofen Semi-pro poker player with 17 years experience on the felt and more than five years working as professional poker media.
